Yeah, I’ve run into
a few of the same things with Fayetteville printing. Lee Green has been great to work with and has diligently worked
through all of the problems. For the
moment, the Linotronic 630 driver is the driver of choice, although the Xeikon
driver has been used with some success by Fayetteville printing. Thanks for your help
with Fayetteville printing and the North Carolina elections. Tyler -----Original
Message----- When I sent the postscript files to Fayetteville printing for the
Georgia Certification, I used the Xeikon DCP/50D driver. The reason I used this instead of the
Linotronic driver, is because Lee Green said he has had problems with the
Linotronic driver. I am not sure if it
is actually the driver or the printer doing the job. I talked with Jane, who has sent postscript files to Fayetteville
printing, and she said that she used the Linotronic driver for Gaston, NC ballots
and had no problem the first time with them, but the second time she had to use
the Xeikon driver because they had problems.
Just a FYI about Fayetteville printing. Jeff

Message----- The
trouble she is having cannot be fixed by adjusting the offsets. The ballot image is rotated to a landscape
orientation whether she chooses Portrait or Landscape in the printer
properties. The effect of this is that
the ballot image is cut off because the long dimension of the ballot image is
on the short dimension of the paper. It
is conceivable that she could use a paper size with a width greater than
11" (if her print driver supports it - I'm not sure) and adjust the
offsets IF she is only ever going to use 11" ballots, but she will be
using 14" ballots for November elections.
Adjusting the offsets is not a viable long-term solution. The driver she is using is specific to the
equipment that her print shop uses to output the postscript files. Other drivers have been tested and all
failed. I
am conducting a campaign to get Iredell to use a different print shop (such as
Fayetteville printing) instead of the rinky-dink local printer they have been
using. Difficulties are encountered
every time Iredell sends ballot artwork to their local print shop. I would appreciate the support of anyone
involved with support in Iredell County in my efforts to get them with a
reliable print shop. Becky is warming
to the idea a bit because of the ongoing difficulties, although her Elections
Board is reluctant to change. As a
result of the problems they've been having and the tight turnaround in
preparation for the May 30 runoff, she is sending laser-printed copies of her
ballot images to her local printer who will use them as camera-ready artwork. This is completely non-standard,
unacceptable, and fraught with peril for Global. We should all be making every effort to get Iredell to change
printers. I
agree that it would be a good thing to have Ghostview loaded onto her
computer. I have already sent Becky a
disk with lino.zip on it which she should receive today, whereupon I will
assist her in installing the Linotronic 630 V 3.3 J GES driver. This is the driver that is used to send
artwork to Fayetteville printing. Tyler -----Original
Message----- Becky
Galliher from Iredell County, NC is having trouble with her postscript files
that she sends to her printer. I have
taken a look at a sample postscript file in GhostView and I can see that she
needs to change the offsets with this particular Postscript Driver that she
has. The only problem is that the
computer that was set up in McKinney with Gems, does not have GhostView on
it. Also, she does not have the Gems
computer set up for the internet. Would
it be possible for someone in McKinney to burn her a CD with GhostView on it,
and could we also put on the same CD the different Postscript drivers that we
have on our FTP site. It may be
possible that with one of the Postscript drivers that we have on the FTP site,
that her printer will be able to accept the files with the default offsets. Thanks, Jeff Hintz Global
