Subject: RE: 128mb PCMCIA Cards - battery
low error
Steve: Please be aware that your conclusions as
to the event trigger are mistaken.
If
AC is plugged into a unit, Windows CE 2.12, at present, is oblivious to any
battery capacity test that the PIC is performing. Please read the theory
of operation for the PIC code for a detailed explanation.
The
reason for this message popping up is unknown.
Sincerely,
Ian S. Piper

128mb PCMCIA Cards - battery low error
This is a Windows CE message. This will
happen if you insert any PCMCIA card during the first 130 seconds after
power-up. The system is on battery power during this time to evaluate
the battery charge level. Likewise, it will also occur any time
the card is inserted without AC applied. It will not affect the
operation of the unit if a card is inserted during this
condition.
Cards inserted before turning on the power will not
generate this message. It does not matter whether it is running on the
battery or if AC is applied.
Cards inserted after 130 seconds with AC power
applied will not generate this message.
It
is OK to answer "Yes" when the system asks if you want to use the card on
battery power.
Steve R.
When you
insert the new 128 MB PCMCIA cards it gives you the following
message:
Warning: Battery power may not be
sufficient to run your PC card.
Some PC
cards,
such as modem cards, require AC power. If you choose Yes below,
you
may want
to save any work in progress.
Do you want to use this PC card on
battery
power? Yes No
Why does
this message come up?
What is
the correct answer to this question?
You do
not get the message if the card is inserted before the machine
is
turned
on. Should the card be
inserted first or is there more to the
message
than that?
