You are correct. Here is the protracted
discussion (laziness overcome).
Cancel write-in went from 0 (zero)
in 4.1.7 to * (asterisk) in 4.1.8. This after a brief stop
at 5 (five) during the 4.1.7-8 prereleases.
Looking at 4.3, it appears that this behavior
was not merged forward correctly. This

in the field, so there was no separate key available to use as you
suggest. At the time I asked Piper
